The iconic cocktail bar Overstory only opened in 2021, but it quickly became one of the most famous rooftop bars in New York.

In the well-known The World’s 50 Best Bars ranking, Overstory is ranked 46th.

Cozy atmosphere and divine views

Overstory is located on the top 64th floor of 70 Pine Street in the middle of the Financial District. The location alone is unique, as most of the other famous rooftop bars in New York are in Midtown or near Central Park.

The views from Overstory are therefore unique in New York City.

The downside is that the view is only outdoors, so it's not exactly ideal in bad weather or in the winter.

The bar itself is one floor above the upscale SAGA restaurant and has an intimate atmosphere - the total capacity is only 36 seats.

Great cocktails

The cocktail menu changes over time and you'll normally find around 15 items on the cocktail list.

We had a total of 4 cocktails and they were all great.

Prices range from 23 usd to 30 usd, which are average or even slightly below average prices within New York City. For example, the cocktails were more expensive at the Peak restaurant near the Edge overlook.

Reservations, walk-in policy and practical information

Online seat reservations can be made through the official overstory-nyc.com website.

Dates are released about 10-14 in advance, but usually only for times between 5pm and 8pm. When booking online you pay a deposit of 100 usd per person, which will be included in your final bar bill.

Overstory welcomes walk-in guests. Check in at the reception desk downstairs, but expect wait times to be between 30 and 45 minutes.

We recommend waiting directly at the front desk. You can give the attendant a phone number to receive a message when a seat becomes available, but international phone numbers often do not receive a message at all.
