Although the iconic Overstory cocktail bar only opened in 2021, it has quickly become one of New York’s best-known rooftop bars.

In the well-known ‘The World’s 50 Best Bars ’ ranking, Overstory came in at number 46.

A cosy atmosphere and stunning views

Overstory is situated on the top floor, the 64th storey, of the 70 Pine Street building in the heart of the Financial District. The location itself is unique, as most of New York’s other famous rooftop bars are in Midtown or near Central Park.

The views from Overstory are therefore unique within New York.

The downside is that the viewing area is entirely outdoors, so it’s not ideal in bad weather or during winter.

The bar itself is situated one floor above the luxury restaurant SAGA and has an intimate atmosphere – it has a total capacity of just 36 seats.

Great cocktails

The cocktail menu changes from time to time, and you’ll usually find around 15 items on it.

We had a total of four cocktails and they were all brilliant.

Prices range from 23 usd to 30 usd, which are average or even slightly below average for New York. For example, cocktails were more expensive at the Peak restaurant by the Edge viewing platform.

Bookings, walk-in policy and practical information

Slots become available around 10–14 days in advance, but usually only for times between 17:00 and 20:00. When booking online, you pay a deposit of 100 usd per person, which will be deducted from your final bill at the bar.

Overstory welcomeswalk-in guests. You’ll need to check in at reception on the ground floor, but please bear in mind that the waiting time can be between 30 and 45 minutes.

We recommend waiting right by reception. You can give the staff a phone number where you’ll receive a message once a table becomes available, although messages often don’t reach international numbers at all.
