Kahului

Kahului is the largest city on the island of Maui and, along with neighboring Wailuku, with which it forms one built-up agglomeration, has a population of nearly 40,000.
With its central location, Maui ' s main airport, and relatively inexpensive lodging (by Maui standards), Kahului serves as a base for many tourists to stay on the island.

What to see in Kahului
Don't look for any historical landmarks or major tourist attractions in Kahului, but the town serves as a base for your stay excellently.
Here you'll find several hypermarkets like Wallmart, Foodland, Safeway or Whole Foods, cheap restaurants and fast-food joints, offices of travel agencies offering such things as snorkeling trips or sightseeing helicopter flights, and, thanks to its location, the start of most of Maui's major highways.
Some of the best spots right in Kahului include the popular Kanaha beach with ideal conditions for kitesurfing and windsurfing. The consistently windy weather and small to medium-sized waves on the wide, spacious beach will keep you entertained for days.
Accommodation in Kahului
It is in Kahului, or Wailuku, that you will find the cheapest accommodations on Maui. For around 165 eur per night in a double room or from 51 eur in a shared hostel room, the popular backpacker's Howzit Hostels offers.
You'll pay about half as much at the highly rated Iao Valley Inn, which is still more than affordable on Maui.
Right downtown near the beach, stay at Maui Seaside Hotel *** with reasonable rates.
Of the big hotel chains in Kahului, the Courtyard by Marriott Maui Kahului Airport *** is the most popular.
