A beautiful valley straight out of a Hawaii travel guide, where you can admire tropical flora, birds and divine scenery, awaits you just minutes from Kahului Airport.

Hiking Routes

Iao Valley is very easy to get to, a 10-minute drive from Wailuku and a short walk from there. It's up to you how far you go.

You can return after a few hundred meters, or continue on to the "West Maui Forest" area and enjoy the beautiful views from the hills. In that case, set aside at least half a day, as the hills are physically very demanding.

The most popular route leads to the famous Iao Needle rock formation, where the most beautiful views of the entire valley can be seen.

Entrance fees and opening hours

The hiking trails are open every day from 7:00-18:00.

Entry must be booked online at the official website gostateparks.hawaii.gov/iao-valley. You usually only need to reserve your entry 1 day in advance, but slots are often available a few hours before your scheduled visit.
