Mirador de Ronda, also known as La Sevillana, is a small balcony jutting out over the western edge of the El Tajo gorge. It stands near the bullring and offers a sweeping view across the Guadalevín river valley to the mountains surrounding Ronda.

You will also often come across the colloquial name Balcón del Coño.

According to local accounts, the name arose from the spontaneous reaction of people who looked down over the railing. It is not an official name, and the same term is sometimes used for other balconies on the edge of the cliff.

In my opinion, it’s the best easily accessible spot for watching the sunset in the centre of Ronda. You don’t need to descend into the valley or plan a longer route. Just bear in mind that you won’t be able to see the whole of the Puente Nuevo from here.

When to visit the Mirador de Ronda

The viewpoint faces west, so the atmosphere is at its best just before sunset. I’d recommend arriving about 30 minutes beforehand. The balcony is small and gets crowded quickly on fine days.

There tend to be fewer people here in the morning and the view may be clearer. However, the sun rises behind you, so you won’t see the colourful sky above the mountains. In summer, the plateau gets very hot during the day and there is no shade on the balcony itself. It’s also often windy here.

Where to find the viewpoint

The Mirador is situated between Alameda del Tajo Park and Paseo Blas Infante, just a few steps from the Plaza de Toros. It takes about 5 minutes to walk here from the Puente Nuevo along a paved and mostly flat path.

This pleasant short walk takes you along the following route:

• Alameda del Tajo – Mirador de Ronda – Paseo Blas Infante – Puente Nuevo

Admission is free and the stop itself takes just 10 to 20 minutes. I’d allow more time at sunset.
