Getting around Perhentian islands

There are no roads on the Perhentian islands, so the only two means of transport are your own feet or a water taxi, which is widely used for trips to the various beaches.
How much does a water taxi cost in the Perhentians? Where to book it? And how to get to the different beaches on foot?

Water taxi
The most used form of transport around the islands is undoubtedly the water taxi. Small boats leave from each of the larger beaches and take you to various beaches and places on both islands for a fixed rate.
Taxi fares are usually fixed and posted at the kiosks that offer water taxis on the beach. You can also hire a boat for the day. You can expect approximately the following prices:
- Tuna Bay (Pulau Besar) - Fisherman Village (Pulau Kecil) - 10 myr
- Tuna Bay (Pulau Kecil) - Long Beach (Pulau Kecil) - 20 myr
- Coral Bay (Pulau Kecil) - Flora Bay (Pulau Besar) - 30 myr
- Coral Bay (Pulau Kecil) - beaches in the north (Pulau Kecil) - 20 - 40 myr
If you are going to one of the deserted beaches, arrange a pick up time with the boatman, otherwise you will not be able to get a boat for the return trip.
On foot
You can also walk within each island on foot, with jungle trails leading between many of the beaches. Some are better maintained, others are in worse condition.
Remember to wear sturdy shoes for any jungle journey and remember you are in the jungle, watch out for poisonous snakes and monkeys. Also take plenty of water for the longer trails.
The trail between Long Beach and Fisherman Village is easy to follow, as is the trail between Long Beach and Coral Bay.
The trail from Long Beach to the overlook and then on to the northern beaches (Adam and Eve Beach, Turtle Beach, D'Lagoon Beach) is in good shape, but it is natural, you will definitely need good shoes and determination.
The trail between Flora Bay and Teluh Pauh Bay and the trail between Coral Bay and Petani Beach are particularly notorious for their poor condition.
