Riga

Riga is the main hub of the Baltic States, especially thanks to the domestic airline airBaltic, which connects Latvia with all major cities in Europe. You can travel here not only by air, but also by bus or train.

By air

The most common flights to Riga are. The only international airport in Riga is Riga RIX. The main carrier is airBaltic, which offers direct connections to dozens of cities in Central and Western Europe.

The number two carrier in terms of routes is low-cost carrier Ryanair.

You can also take advantage of flights with LOT, British Airways, Lufthansa, flyDubai, Turkish Airlines, Transavia, Finnair, Aegean Airlines, etc. Most of them fly to Riga only from their home airport.

Where to buy tickets to Riga

Ideally, buy your tickets to Riga 2 to 3 months in advance for the lowest price, either on the airlines' websites or through one of the flight search engines.

The advantage of visiting Riga is the price of flights, which often cost no more than 150 eur for a return ticket, on any date during the year. When promotions are available, you can get prices hitting 50 eur or less for a return flight.

Riga Central Bus Station Rīgas autoosta Riga's bus station is located on the border of the historic city, right next to the train station and the central market. It includes a small check-in hall with shopping, refreshments, ATM, luggage storage or toilets and showers.

Although the bus services are particularly convenient when travelling from neighbouring countries such as Estonia or Lithuania, it is possible to travel to Riga by bus from Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, etc. Riga can be reached from further afield.

The cheapest way to buy tickets is directly on the websites of the individual bus carriers.

Tickets from neighbouring cities are usually available from 4 eur to 7 eur, especially from Tallinn or Vilnius. On long-distance routes, prices range from 20 eur upwards in one direction.

By train

There is currently only one international route to Riga, from Vilnius, Lithuania. Train connections with Russia have been discontinued.

The main railway station is located on the eastern border of the historic city centre next to the bus station. The station includes an adjacent department store with a myriad of dining options.

The rail carrier LTG Link operates from Vilnius to Riga every day. The timetable is as follows:

Ticket prices are 24 eur in second class and 34 eur in first class. Tickets can be purchased online at ltglink.lt or directly at the station.

The stunning Rail Baltica high-speed rail project is under construction, connecting the main cities and airports in the Baltic States with Western Europe. However, we have to wait a few years for its completion.
