Palermo, Falcone Borsellino and Punta Raisi

All three names refer to the same airport.

The official name is Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport, and the IATA code is PMO. The airport is situated near the town of Cinisi in the Punta Raisi area, which is why you will often also see the name Punta Raisi used, particularly in train timetables and on local signage.

Which terminal does my flight use?

Palermo Airport has only one terminal, which is divided into several floors and departure zones.

The arrivals hall and baggage reclaim are on the ground floor. Check-in desks, security checks and departure areas are on the upper floors.

Gates marked with the letters A or B do not indicate a different terminal. They are simply different parts of the same building.

How long before departure should I arrive?

We recommend arriving at the airport:

  • 1.5 hours before a domestic or Schengen flight
  • 2 hours before a flight outside the Schengen area

The airport itself recommends that you be at security at least 2 hours before departure. In summer, at weekends and when checking in luggage, it is sensible to allow for a longer buffer.

Check-in and security screening usually take the longest. For flights outside the Schengen area, you must also go through passport control.

Fast Track

If queues are long, you can use the paid Fast Track service for security screening.

Fast Track is available every day from 4.40 am to 9.30 pm. When purchased online, it costs 9 eur, at the airport kiosk 10 eur.

Children under 12 can pass through free of charge when accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket.

Early-morning departures from Palermo

There are many flights departing from Palermo very early in the morning. Even for the earliest flights, we therefore do not recommend arriving later than 2 hours before departure.

Check the first morning train or bus before you travel. If you have a very early flight and don’t want to rely on a night-time taxi, consider staying in accommodation near the airport.

What happens on arrival?

Passengers from Schengen Area countries proceed directly to the baggage reclaim area after disembarking the aircraft.

If you are arriving from a country outside the Schengen Area, you will first go through passport control. This is followed by baggage collection and exit to the public arrivals hall on the ground floor.

The time taken to leave the airport varies significantly depending on the number of flights arriving at the same time.

If you are travelling with hand luggage and arriving from a Schengen country, the process is usually quick, whereas for flights from outside the Schengen area, queues at passport control can be as long as 45 minutes.

Late arrivals and night-time operations

Palermo Airport also handles late-evening and night-time arrivals. Taxis outside the terminal operate in line with flight arrivals, and some bus services run until late in the evening. The taxi rank is located directly outside the exit from the arrivals hall.

If your flight is significantly delayed, always check the times of the last train or bus to Palermo. You can find detailed timetables in the section ‘Transport from Palermo Airport’.
