Transfers and Terminal Layout at Oslo Airport

Oslo

Oslo Airport uses one large terminal for all flights. All flights are handled from a single building. No need to take any automatic trains or buses.

The walking distance from one end of the terminal to the other is about 10-12 minutes.

The ground floor is used for arrivals, while the 1st floor is set aside for departures. The huge lobby houses all the check-in desks and many self-service check-in machines. Self-service baggage check-in can also be used.

A central security checkpoint leads to all flights: domestic and international.

Beyond the security checkpoint, the passenger flow is further divided into 3 parts:

  • domestic - gates A, B, C
  • international (Schengen) - gates D, E
  • international (non-Schengen) - gates F

Passport control is only in the area between gates E and F. Once you enter the F gate area, you cannot go back.

Transfer between flights

Oslo is a major transfer point and although Norway is in the Schengen area, there are different rules for transferring from international to domestic flights.

Always make sure your baggage is checked through to your final destination before you fly, or you will have to collect and re-check it in Oslo. Below we describe the general rules that apply in most cases.

Do you have at least 7 hours to transfer? Then head into town. Get ready for your trip with our guide:

International -> Domestic

A direct connection without leaving the transit zone is only possible if you arrive in Oslo with SAS, Norwegian, Widore, Emirates or Atlantic Airways. For SAS and Norwegian, this does not apply to arrivals from certain destinations, see image below.

If you meet these conditions, your baggage will be automatically rechecked when you arrive in Oslo.

Follow the "Domestic Transfer" signs and do not go to the gate.

During the transfer you will only go through customs if you have goods to clear. You will not go through security check and you will only go through passport control upon arrival from a non-Schengen country.

In this case, the transfer usually takes between 20 and 35 minutes.

If you arrive in Oslo with another airline, you will always have to collect your luggage, leave the transit area and check in again.

This also applies if you are travelling with hand luggage only. Upon arrival, you will be directed to a corridor leading directly to the exit without the possibility of a direct transfer.

In this case, the transfer usually takes between 35 and 50 minutes.

Domestic -> International

If you are flying from any destination in Norway via Oslo to any destination abroad and have purchased the connection as one booking, you do not need to leave the transit area.

In this case, it is not necessary to have a flight only with SAS, Norwegian, Atlantic Airways or Emirates as with a transfer from an international to a domestic flight.

Your luggage will always be automatically transferred. If you are travelling with checked baggage only and have a boarding pass for the next flight, you do not need to leave the transit area.

When you leave the aircraft, you will be in the domestic departure gate area. Follow the "International Flights" signs which will lead you to Gates D, E, F or G.

In this case, the transfer usually takes between 20 and 35 minutes.

Schengen <-> Schengen or Non-Schengen <-> Non-Schengen

When you fly from an international destination in the Schengen area and then fly back to Schengen, you do not go through any checks. Your luggage will be transferred automatically.

Follow the "Connecting Flights" signs and you will go straight from the aircraft to the departure gates.

In this case, the transfer usually takes between 5 and 15 minutes.

Domestic <-> Domestic

If you are connecting between two flights within Norway via Oslo, once you exit you will find yourself directly in the departure gate area of domestic flights.

Your luggage will be transferred automatically.

In this case, the transfer usually takes between 5 and 15 minutes.

Schengen -> Non-Schengen

When flying from an international destination outside the Schengen area and the connecting flight to Schengen, you only go through passport control. Your luggage will be transferred automatically.

Follow the "Connecting Flights" signs and you will go straight from the aircraft to the departure gates and then to passport control.

In this case, the transfer usually takes between 15 and 35 minutes.

Non-Schengen -> Schengen

If you are transferring from a non-Schengen country to a Schengen country and have a ticket on one booking, your baggage will be transferred automatically.

However, you will have to go through passport and security control upon arrival.

In this case, the transfer usually takes between 45 and 65 minutes.
