Transferring between flights
If both flights are on the same booking, you will usually transfer within the same terminal.
However, there are also frequent transfers between terminals, for example between Aeromexico and Air France, KLM, Iberia, Emirates and other airlines.
Do I have to go through passport control?
Yes.
You must go through immigration on every international arrival, even when transferring to another international flight.
This is because Mexico City Airport does not have a secure international area – it is therefore similar to airports in the US.
However, you do not go through passport control when transferring from a domestic flight within Mexico (for example, from Cancún) to an international flight.
In fact, you never go through passport control when departing from Mexico.

Do I need to collect my checked-in luggage?

How much time do I need for a transfer?
This always depends on how long the queues are at immigration or security.
Generally speaking, any connection time sold to you by the airline should be sufficient.
And if you miss your connection, for example due to an exceptionally long queue at passport control, the airline should take care of you and rebook you onto the next available flight free of charge.

Do I need a visa for Mexico when transferring?
Yes. If your country does not have a visa-free agreement with Mexico, you will need a visa even when transferring.
However, many countries around the world have visa-free travel with Mexico, so you won’t need a visa – here is a list of countries with visa-free travel.
As you always pass through immigration control upon arrival from abroad when entering Mexico, you must meet the same entry requirements as regular visitors to the country.
Transfer between terminals
There are no shuttle buses running between Terminals 1 and 2 in the transit zone.
When transferring between terminals, you must always pass through the public area of the airport and travel to the other terminal using the AeroTrain or the Tetsa bus.
How long do I need to transfer between terminals?
