Mexico City Benito Juarez International Airport in a nutshell
Benito Juárez International Airport is located within the built-up area of Mexico City (9 km from the city centre) and is one of the three largest airports in Latin America.
AeroMexico, Interjet, VivaAerobus and Volaris are based here.
Most flights are to destinations within Mexico (often several times an hour to a single city), the USA and neighbouring countries.
Long-haul routes serve Europe, South America, the Middle East and East Asia.
Due to the airport’s very limited or non-existent potential for expansion and its fully utilised capacity, a decision was made in 2014 to build a new airport at Texcoco.
However, after eight years, the project was halted and, as an alternative to the overburdened Benito Juárez Airport, the former military airport of Santa Lucía, now known as Felipe Ángeles NLU, was put into operation.
