You can take two free carry-on bags on board each flight, measuring 56 x 35 x 22 cm and 43 x 25 x 22 cm on long-haul flights (i.e. all connections between North America and Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and South America). On flights within North America, only one small hand luggage of 43 x 25 x 22 cm can be carried on the 'Basic Economy' fare. However, if a shorter flight within the Americas is part of a single ticket from Europe, the two free hand baggage policy also applies.
On "Economy" fares and above, you can have two carry-on bags on all flights.
Checked bag gage weighing up to 23 kg is now not allowed to be carried free of charge on the lowest fare on flights from Europe to North and South America from 2018.
On domestic flights and flights from the US to Canada, you'll pay $30 per checked bag when you buy online. The fee at the airport then goes up to $55. For flights between Europe and America, there is a $60 fee.
Sports equipment up to 23 kg counts as one regular bag. So if you're still travelling with a regular suitcase, you'll have to pay for one of your bags.
Pets in the cabin are carried up to 8 kg for a fee of $125. Fees for larger animals range from $200 to $500 per flight.
Hello, we are flying to the USA on United from Munich in April. We will have hand luggage only. Our suitcase size is 55×38 and united only allows 55×35. Do you think the extra 3 cm will be a problem at the checkpoint? Thank you in advance for your reply.
