The West Village is one of the neighbourhoods in Lower Manhattan and is one of my favourites.

You’ll feel the atmosphere of old, traditional New York here, with its brick buildings and iconic fire escapes.

Quiet streets and superb cuisine

The West Village is known for its quiet streets lined with mature trees and, compared to other parts of Manhattan, feels like a great place to live.

This is one of the reasons why rents and property prices here are among the highest in the whole city.

The neighbourhood is also known for breaking up Manhattan’s regular grid of streets – the streets in the West Village run at different angles to all the other main streets outside the neighbourhood.

The centre of the West Village, around Bleecker Street, is famous for its large number of cafés and restaurants.

How to get there

You can use the following metro stations:

  • Christopher St–Stonewall(approx. 150 metres from Bleecker Street) – red lines 1, 2
  • W 4 St–Wash Sq(approx. 400 metres from Bleecker Street) – blue lines A, C, E and orange lines B, D, F, M
