One of New York’s most interesting skyscrapers can be found in the well-known area known as Billionaire’s Row, home to the world’s most expensive flats. The building at 111 West 57th Street is simply named after its address; it is theslimmest skyscraper in the world and the second-tallest residential building in the world.

The skyscraper at 111 West 57th Street opened in 2022.

Although you may come across a somewhat more melodious name for this building "Steinway Tower", in most cases it is simply referred to by its address.

It contains 60 luxury flats, the most expensive of which sold for $66 million.

The height and width of the skyscraper

At first glance, the building catches the eye with its unusually slender shape and distinctive façade. Whilst the southern wall of the skyscraper gradually tapers towards the top, the northern wall remains straight right up to the very top.

At435 metres, it isthe second-tallest residential building in the world after the neighbouring Central Park Tower (472 metres).

Its main characteristic, however, is its extremely slender appearance. The ratio of height to width is roughly 1:24, making 111 West 57th Street the slimmest skyscraper in the world.

Visiting the building

Access is restricted to residents and their visitors only.

There is currently no public viewing terrace at Steinway Tower.
