Birmingham in a nutshell
Birmingham, the UK’s second-largest city, has been unfairly stigmatised by its industrial past in the late 20th century, when it was an uninteresting and unattractive place.
Since the turn of the millennium, however, Birmingham has gradually been transforming into a modern metropolis, with its former industrial districts having been very successfully redeveloped.
Along the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, for example, one of the most attractive neighbourhoods in any English city has been created.
Birmingham may not be the destination for a week-long holiday, but when travelling through the Midlands, it would certainly be a great shame to miss it.
