Where to stay in Ilulissat

Ilulissat is the most touristy town in Greenland and therefore there is quite a wide choice of hotels, including multinational chain brands.
There are 6 classic big hotels in Ilulissat and you can also find several guesthouses on the usual booking portals like booking.com.
Our tip - where we stayed
When choosing accommodation, I had a clear goal - a hotel with a view of the sea dotted with ice floes.
This is the criterion that Ilulissat best meets Hotel Icefiord *** In the quiet southern part of town about 15 minutes walk from the harbour.
Even the cheapest rooms have a direct view of the sea.
In addition, the hotel has a great terrace accessible to all guests!
I was very pleasantly surprised by the hotel's breakfast included in the room rate. Although the choice is quite limited, the hotel makes most of the food itself and especially the sweet cakes, muesli and marmalades were absolutely fabulous.
Double room rates at the Icefiord are around 140 eur per night in low season and around 320 eur in July and August, which is average within Ilulissat.

More hotels with sea view
There are other hotels closer to the town centre or the harbour that have beautiful sea views.
- Hotel Arctic **** - I originally wanted to stay at this hotel but missed out on a good room rate. The hotel offers probably the best views of the sea directly from the rooms plus you can stay in unique private outdoor rooms reminiscent of modern igloos
- Hotel Hvide Falk *** - located right in the centre and right by the harbour
Other well rated hotels
If you don't require a perfect sea view, compare prices at these hotels too:
- Best Western Plus Hotel Ilulissat **** - the only hotel of a large multinational chain located right in the city centre.
- HOTEL SØMA Ilulissat *** - the Danish hotel chain often offers the lowest rates of any hotel in Ilulissat
- Hotel Nuka - cheap hotel right in the centre
Accommodation prices and when to book
Normal hotel prices in the high season, which runs from mid-June to mid-September, are between 260 eur and 320 eur per night.
We definitely recommend booking your stay during this period at least 3-4 months in advance ideally with the option of cancelling for free and keep checking other hotel offers.
Occasionally, it happens that prices drop slightly in case of lower demand. On the other hand, it is more common for prices to rise significantly as the date approaches.
