The Cape Verde Islands - Cabo Verde in Portuguese - can be loosely translated from Portuguese as the Green Cape Islands.
They lie off the west coast of Africa and are named after the westernmost tip of the black continent. They consist of 15 islands, which are clearly dominated by two islands - Sal and Boa Vista. These two islands are popular and popular year-round holiday destinations.
The windy conditions indulge athletes with a penchant for surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing.
However, lovers of sandy and deserted beaches will be especially pleased. Virtually every major resort has its own beach, which is tens of metres wide and hundreds of metres long without encountering guests of another hotel.
