Wizz Air transfers: what is WIZZ Link and when is it worth it
Wizz Air, one of Europe's largest low-cost airlines , has started selling connecting flights on one booking.
The service is called WIZZ Link, but it works differently to what passengers are used to with standard "legacy" airlines.
At first glance, WIZZ Link may look like a normal transfer. But it actually has a number of limitations that are good to know before you buy.
What is WIZZ Link?
WIZZ Link allows you to buy two connecting flights in one step and under one booking code.
This is the main difference to a normal self-transfer, where you combine the flights yourself and have two separate bookings.
Quick answer: is WIZZ Link worth it?
WIZZ Link makes sense if:
- there is no other reasonable connection
- the transfer is long enough
- you buy ConnectSure
On the other hand, it's usually not worth it:
- for short connections
- no guarantee of transfer (paid ConnectSure services)
How WIZZ Link differs from a traditional transfer
With traditional airlines, a connecting flight means that you are guaranteed to get to your destination in one booking - luggage at connecting airports is usually automatically transferred, you are checked in for the entire route at the first airport and the airline has to take care of you if you miss your connection.
This is not the case with Wizz Air.
What does WIZZ Link offer?
- ✅ the possibility to buy two independent flights in one step and with one booking code
- ✅ automatic search for suitable combinations
What does WIZZ Link not offer?
- ❌ Baggage must be collected and re-checked
- ❌ online check-in must be done separately for each flight
- ❌ guarantee of the transfer itself - if the first flight is delayed or cancelled, Wizz Air will not provide a refund for the second flight
- ❌ if one flight is cancelled or rescheduled (by Wizz Air), you are not entitled to a second flight adjustment
This means that without an additional service, it is still effectively self-transfer.
ConnectSure - Wizz Air's connection guarantee
If you want to have a guaranteed connecting flight, you must also purchase ConnectSure together with your tickets, which is selected during the flight booking process.
This service costs between 5 eur and 11 eur (depending on the specific route) and includes the following benefits for delayed/cancelled flights and missed connecting flights:
- ✅ free re-booking on the next available flight
- ✅ hotel reimbursement if necessary (maximum 100 eur per night and you must arrange your own hotel)
- ✅ food and drink at a maximum value of 15 eur per person
- ✅ in case of cancellation or change of time of one flight (by Wizz Air) you are entitled to an adjustment of the second flight as well
When does ConnectSure not work either?
- ❌ When delayed/cancelled due to weather, strike or other extraordinary event
- ❌ when there is a long queue at passport control or check-in
Important: Even with ConnectSure, you still have to collect and re-check your baggage.
What else to watch out for
WIZZ Link has other risks.
- Visa and transfer country - this can be a problem typically for UK transfers, where you will always need to arrange an ETA
- Very long transfers - the system often offers long overnight transfers
- 👉 Booking.com - hotels near the airport for long transfers
- Slightly higher price - the final price is always converted to euros and the final price is almost always a few euros higher than if you had combined the flights yourself
- 👉 Skyscanner.com - compare prices of alternative connections
My opinion: when does WIZZ Link make sense?
Wizz Air flies to many destinations that are difficult to get to except by connecting and that are not served by conventional airlines. These are typically combinations of smaller airports in Eastern or South-Eastern Europe.
However, to make a truly guaranteed connection, you always have to pay extra for the added ConnectSure service.
Without that, WIZZ Link makes no sense to me personally.
❓ What do you think of WIZZ Link? Let's discuss in the comments below this article.
FAQ - what are you asking us?
Is WIZZ Link a guaranteed transfer?
No. It is only guaranteed with the ConnectSure add-on service.
Do I need to pick up my luggage?
Yes, always.
What if I miss my connecting flight?
Without ConnectSure you have to buy a new flight yourself. With ConnectSure, Wizz Air will rebook you according to the terms of service.
Is WIZZ Link cheaper than a traditional transfer?
Sometimes yes, but not always. The price may be slightly higher than when you manually fold your flights and it's always a good idea to compare alternatives.

Does ConnectSure guarantee another flight on a foreign airline? Or do you have to wait for a seat to become available on the next W6 flight, which may be in a few days.
Still read the terms and conditions of insurance: https://support.dohop.com/hc/en-...conditions
ConnectSure does not cover situations where delays are caused by weather, strikes or other unforeseeable emergencies. As well as delays at passport control or waiting too long to recheck-in luggage...
Thanks, that's a useful point!
With this (if that's what it is)
it's completely useless. If I have to buy some kind of "insurance" because of this, so I can rebook or refund the whole trip when they start fucking with the times as they are wont to do, then it's nonsense and the whole glorious wizz link is no different from buying those "connecting" flights separately.
