Wizz Air to close Vienna base from 2026

Wizz Air announced today on its Instagram profile that it will close its base in Vienna, where it currently has 5 aircraft based.
The first routes will end in October 2025 and the remaining routes in March 2026.
Without giving further details, Wizz Air said there were "strategic reasons" behind the decision.
Wizz Air is known for making sudden changes, so the information below is certainly subject to change.
Which routes will be cancelled and when?
The first routes will be cancelled as early as 25 October 2025 - by which date the routes from Vienna to Bilbao and London Gatwick will end.
The rest of the other routes flown by aircraft based in Vienna will end on 15 March 2026.
This affects the following routes:
- Amman
- Burgas
- Chania
- Corfu
- Hurghada
- Jeddah
- London Luton
- Madeira
- Nice
- Ohrid
- Podgorica
- Pristina
- Suceava
- Tel Aviv
- Tenerife
- Tirana
- Zakynthos
What to do if you have a cancelled flight?
Wizz Air states that all affected passengers will be contacted via the mobile app or email.
The company will automatically offer you the option to change to another flight first or a refund in the form of a credit to your Wizz Air account.
However, you are also always entitled to a full refund and a refund of the actual money.
Which routes will remain in service
On wizzair.com, routes to/from Vienna that are operated from other bases remain on sale after 15 March 2026.
So for now, it looks like Wizz Air will continue to fly from Vienna to these airports after March 2026:
Where will the planes be moved to?
A total of 5 aircraft are affected by the closure of the Vienna base.
It can be assumed that Wizz Air will deploy them to its other bases. The first sight is nearby Bratislava, where Wizz Air has announced a major expansion since autumn.
However, neither details nor a large number of other new routes have been announced yet.
Perhaps a different base will open at an airport where Wizz Air has so far only flown from other bases (Prague, perhaps?), or perhaps planes will be deployed differently across the airline's network.
