Waimea Airport in a nutshell

The smallest of the Big Island's airports is located in the northern part of the island, about 1.5 km south of Waimea and 38 km from the famous Waipio Valley. For tourist purposes, the local airport is not very usable unless you are an aviation enthusiast and want to use as many different airports as possible.
The official name is "Waimea-Kohala" and sometimes you will also come across the name "Kamuela".
Only Mokulele Airlines flies here 1-2 times a day from Kahului Airport on Maui.
The local terminal is pleasantly spacious and oversized for the number of passengers it handles. Just arrive 40 minutes before your flight.

You'll find significantly larger airports on both the west and east coasts of the island:
- Kona Airport - frequent service to the U.S. West Coast, other Hawaiian Islands and Canada.
- Hilo Airport - frequent service to Honolulu and Maui
