Getting from Shizuoka Airport

View from the observation deck

Mt. Fuji-Shizuoka Airport is 37 km from Shizuoka and 54 km from Hamamatsu.

For public transport, there are several bus routes to the nearest train stations or to the centre of Shizuoka.

Taxis and car rental services are also available.

Public transport - buses

There is a bus stop directly outside the terminal, which operates mainly to the train stations.

Detailed bus departure times can be found on the airport website:

However, you can conveniently and accurately find connections to the airport using, for example, Google Maps, which always offers the fastest solution.

These are the regular bus services running directly to the airport.

  • Bus to JR Kanaya station (busiest)
    • 1x per hour (in the morning or afternoon sometimes 2x per hour)
    • 15 minutes - travel time
    • 500 jpy - Payment can be made with your own contactless card, IC card or cash (exact amount), always directly with the driver
    • JR trains from Kanaya station
      • direction Hamamatsu (and onwards with a change to Nagoya) - track 3
      • direction Shizuoka, Fuji, Numazu, Mishima, Atami (and onwards with a change at Gotemba, Tokyo) - track 1
      • ATM at the station - no (you must have cash or IC card to buy a train ticket)
  • Bus to downtown Shizuoka (convenient option)
    • 9 times daily (connects to most flights)
    • 50 minutes - journey time
    • 1 200 jpy - Payment can be made with your own contactless card, IC card or cash (exact amount), always directly with the driver
    • JR trains from Shizuoka station
      • especially convenient for Fuji, Numazu, Mishima, Atami (and onwards with Gotemba, Tokyo transfer)
      • for Hamamtsu direction it is better to take a bus to Kanaya station
      • ATM at the station - yes
    • Shinkansen from Shizuoka station
    • Shizutetsu Hotel Prezio Shizuoka-Ekikita ***

The other two lines are rather supplementary and only use them if Google Maps recommends them as part of your planning. The same trains run from both JR stations as from Shizuoka or Kanaya.

  • Bus to JR Fujieda station
    • 500 jpy / 6 times a day
  • Bus to JR Shimada station
    • 600 jpy / 2X daily

If you change trains, you can always buy tickets at all train stations - at the ticket machines or at the ticket office. You can always pay with cash only.

If you use a Japanese transport IC card, you can pay for all regional and local trains with your IC card by attaching it to the turnstile when boarding and alighting (you don't have to deal with buying physical tickets). You can't pay for trains with a contactless bank card yet.

I traveled to the airport from Fuji city to visit the famous photo spot of the mountain with the shinkansen in the foreground.

I took the train to Kanaya station where I changed to a bus heading to the airport. The bus stop is clearly marked.

Where to buy a TOICA card at Shizuoka Airport?

Shizuoka is in an area where the TOICA IC transport card valid on all transport systems in Japan is issued.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to buy a TOICA card at the airport. The only way to buy it is at JR stations, but you can only pay in cash.

Therefore, you must either exchange money at the airport exchange office at an unfavorable exchange rate or take a bus to downtown Shizuoka to withdraw from an ATM (there is no ATM at the airport or Kanaya station).

Taxi / Uber / Go

The taxi stand is right outside the terminal.

Taxis can be paid for with cash or card and if the driver doesn't have a card terminal, regular taxis can be hailed and then paid for via the GO or Uber mobile apps.

Prices are always calculated according to the taximeter (even when using apps like Uber) and depend on the volume of traffic. As a rough guide, you will pay the following amounts:

  • Shizuoka - 14 000 jpy to 18 000 jpy
  • Hamamatsu - 19 000 jpy to 25 000 jpy

Rent a car

Car rental companies such as Alamo, Enterprise and Nissan have counters in the arrivals terminal.

We recommend renting a car if you want to explore the beautiful mountains in the area and don't want to depend on buses.

Prices start at 50 000 jpy for a week's rental.
