Hotels and sleeping at Muscat Airport

Maskat

Departures and arrivals to/from Muscat Airport operate throughout the night, so it may be convenient to stay overnight near the terminal for maximum convenience.

Hotels right at the airport

For transit passengers with long layover times, a transit hotel is open directly inside the terminal behind security. Neither Oman Air nor any other airline provides a free hotel for long layovers.

However, rates at the transit hotel are friendly and start at 80 usd per night.

Can I use the hotel after arrival / go out of the transit zone?

No. The hotel is located in the departure transit zone, from which you cannot go out into the public area.

Therefore, the hotel is exclusively for departing passengers or transfer passengers who have already cleared security and are not planning to visit the city.

Bear in mind that most airlines don't open check-in desks until 3 hours before departure, so if you are a departing (and not a transfer) passenger, you can usually only spend something like 2 hours net time at the hotel.

Can I stay at the hotel during the day?

Yes.

Aerotel Muscat Airport has hourly rates - you pay for each hour you stay, not per night.

Hotels in the area

There are a few hotels near the airport, but none offer a free transfer to the terminal.

Hotels in Muscat

As the centre of Muscat is not far from the airport, it may be worth staying in a hotel in town. The taxi ride won't take more than 25 minutes and prices for hotels in the centre start from 35 usd per night.

Overnight in the terminal

Muscat Airport is open 24 hours a day and there is no problem staying overnight.

At the end of the main departure hall in the transit area, you'll find dozens of comfortable sleeping chairs that you can use for free.
