Transfers and Terminal Layout at Kobe Airport
Kobe Airport has 2 small, well-organised terminals in separate buildings about 400 metres away.
The terminals are connected by a covered pedestrian walkway and clearly marked.
A free shuttle bus even runs between the terminals and the Kansai Airport boat dock once every 15 minutes.
Which terminal?
The distribution of terminals is based on a simple key:
- Terminal 1 - all domestic flights within Japan
- Terminal 2 - all direct international flights
Terminal 1 has only arrivals on the ground floor and on the 1st floor there are check-in desks, security checkpoint and escalators towards the restaurants and observation deck.
Terminal 2 is more modern and spacious. Arrivals and check-in desks are on the ground floor and you take the escalator to security to the 1st floor.
Transfer between flights
While Kobe is not a major transfer hub, Skymark Airlines, for example, occasionally offers guaranteed connecting flights here.
Domestic <-> Domestic
After exiting the aircraft, you can go left immediately into the departure gate area without having to leave the transit area.
All domestic transfers take place within Terminal 1 only.
- 🚨 Security check - no
- 🛂 Passport control - no
- 🛄 Transfer baggage - will be transferred automatically (if you have 2 flights on one booking)
- 🕖 Average transfer time - 5 to 10 minutes

International <-> Domestic
There are no guaranteed transfers from international to Japan (or vice versa).
Therefore, you must always go through immigration, collect your luggage, go between terminals 1 <-> 2 and check in again.
The recommended minimum transfer time is at least 120 minutes.
