There is no public transport to Kilimanjaro Airport. You can only use taxis at a flat rate 50 usd or vanpooling airlines and Precision Air.

The journey by car and bus to Arusha or Moshi usually takes 60-90 minutes.

Taxi

Only official airport taxis are allowed to run from the airport, and you'll rarely encounter scam taxi drivers in the arrivals hall.

A taxi from Kilimanjaro Airport is therefore a very safe mode of transport.

The flat rate from the airport to both Arusha and Moshi is 70 usd. US dollars are the preferred currency, however you can easily pay in Tanzanian shillings when the price is converted at 175 000 tzs.

Bolt / Uber

Significantly cheaper transport is offered by the mobile apps Bolt and Uber, with Bolt usually cheaper.

Prices are calculated based on current demand and on average you will pay the following amounts:

• Arusha - 80 000 tzs
• Moshi - 65 000 tzs

Shared shuttle

Precision Air offers transportation to Arusha.

This service is available to passengers of all airlines, however buses are only tied to scheduled Precision Air flights.

The journey costs 10 000 tzs and is payable only in cash to the bus driver.

Departure times are not available anywhere online. Buses run from the airport to the city about 30 minutes after Precision air arrives.

In the direction from Arusha to the airport, the bus runs about 3 to 3.5 hours before departure. You can check the specific time in person at the airline office on the 1st floor of the Ngorongoro Tourism Center building (see location on map).

Car rental

Renting a car is the best option if you want to discover Tanzania on your own and are aware of the specifics of driving in Africa, such as the absolute ignorance of traffic regulations, the poor condition of the roads and the frequent occurrence of wild animals on the roads.

These car rental companies do not have branches in Tanzania directly, but have contracted local rental companies to provide you with a car.

Always specify your arrival time when booking, as a car rental agent will be waiting at the airport to provide you with a car.

Due to weak competition, prices are relatively high and a week's rental of a small car in high season works out at around 250 eur.
