Getting from Kahului Airport

There is a Hele-on bus stop right in front of the terminal, but the vast majority of passengers use rental cars to get around Maui.

You can't do without a car on Maui unless you want to spend your entire vacation at a beachfront hotel resort in one of the larger resorts in west and south Maui, which are also accessible by bus.

Kahului Airport is in a great strategic location in the middle of the island, with easy access to all of Maui's main attractions.
Public transportation - bus
If you're arriving late in the evening or leaving early in the morning, for example, and it's worth renting/returning your car a day later/earlier to save a few dozen dollars, there are also local public buses to get you to the airport.
There are two bus routes, 35 and 40, to downtown Kahului .
The city is very close, so it takes about 5 minutes to get there. The two run about once every hour and a half from 5:30 to 10:00 pm interspersed, so the interval to Kahului town is 30 minutes.
The ticket costs 2 usd regardless of distance traveled and is paid in exact cash to the driver.
