High Speed Train
Directly outside the terminal is the "Meilan" intercity high-speed train station, but you can use it to travel around the whole of Hainan Island.
Trains run 2-3 times per hour in each direction, but the first train from downtown Haikou to the airport doesn't leave until 6:25am.
- Haikou
- Price - 10 cny
- Travel time - 35 minutes
- Sanya
- price - 141 cny
- Driving time - 2.5 hours
Timetables can be viewed on the official website 12306.cn or on trip.com. The station at the airport is called "Meilan".
Taxi
There are plenty of official taxis at Haikou Airport, but you can spend more than 45 minutes in the taxi queue, especially during the evening arrivals.
Taxis can be paid via apps such as Alipay or WeChat, or in cash.
It's always a good idea to have the address in Chinese ready on your mobile phone to show the kiosk when ordering a taxi and possibly the driver.
The price is always calculated according to the taximeter and you will pay about 150 cny depending on the specific destination and the time of day/night.
Taxi via mobile app
Popular Chinese mobile apps such as DiDi or My China Taxi operate in Haikou.
- Didi (Google Play / App Store)
- My China Taxi (Google Play / App Store)
The price to downtown Sanya can be significantly lower via these apps than regular taxis (starting from 100 cny).
