Transport from Dar es Salaam Airport: My Tips
The best way to get from Dar es Salaam Airport to the city centre is by taxi or using the very popular Bolt or Uber apps.
The fare to the city centre is around 50,000 shillings for standard taxis and from as little as 18,000 shillings when using the Bolt or Uber apps. The journey to the city centre takes between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on traffic.

Taxi / Uber
Official taxis are waiting outside the terminal. You should always pay the driver directly, and we recommend only using the services of official taxi drivers, who are waiting at the designated rank outside all terminals.
You must agree the fare with the driver in advance; taximeters are not used. The usual fare to the centre of Dar es Salaam by taxi should not exceed 50 000 tzs; however, fares can be up to double this amount after dark.
The Uber and Bolt mobile apps also work very well in Dar es Salaam, offering journeys from 18 000 tzs from the airport to the city centre. Both apps also offer the option of a tuk-tuk ride for fares starting from 14 000 tzs.
Car hire
If you’re up for tackling the chaotic African traffic and want to head out into the countryside on your own without a driver, there are also several international car hire companies operating right at Dar es Salaam Airport.
Prices for a week are around 200 usd.
International car hire companies do not have their own branches in Tanzania, but they have agreements with local hire firms that will provide you with a car.
When making a booking, always state your arrival time, as a car hire representative will be waiting for you at the airport to hand over the car.
Public transport – buses
Bus services in Dar es Salaam are gradually being developed, and dedicated lanes for modern buses are being introduced.
No buses stop directly in front of the terminal; however, there is a bus stop on the main road, about a 5-minute walk from Terminals 2 and 3, and 20 minutes’ walk from Terminal 1.
The fare is 750 tzs and can be purchased at the ticket office at the station in cash only (Tanzanian shillings only). The journey time to the city centre is approximately 45 minutes, and buses run irregularly at intervals of around 15 minutes from approximately 6.00 am to 7.00 pm.
The airport bus route has been in operation since 2026.
