Getting from Dar es Salaam Airport
The best form of transport from Dar es Salaam airport to the city centre is taxis and the very popular Bolt or Uber apps.
The price to the centre is around 50,000 shillings for regular taxis and from 18,000 shillings for the Bolt / Uber mobile apps. The journey to the city centre takes between 30 and 60 minutes depending on traffic.

Taxi / Uber
Official taxis wait outside the terminal. Payment is always made directly to the taxi driver and we recommend only using the official taxi offers, which wait at a marked stand outside all terminals.
The price must be agreed with the driver in advance, meters are not used. The usual price to the centre of Dar es Salaam for a taxi should not exceed 50 000 tzs, however, prices can be up to double that in the dark.
The Uber and Bolt mobile apps also work well in Dar es Salaam, offering rides at prices from 18 000 tzs from the airport to the city centre. Both apps will also offer tuk-tuk rides at prices from 14 000 tzs.
Rent a car
If you dare to brave the lively African traffic and want to venture out on your own without a driver, there are also several international car rental companies operating right at Dar es Salaam Airport.
Prices for 1 week are around 200 usd.
International car rental companies do not have direct branches in Tanzania, but have contracted local rental companies to provide you with a car.
Always specify your arrival time when booking, as a car rental company employee will be waiting at the airport to provide you with a car.
Public transport - buses
Bus services in Dar es Salaam are gradually being developed and high-speed corridors for modern buses are being introduced.
There are no buses directly outside the terminal, however there is a bus stop on the main street approximately 5 minutes walk from terminals 2 and 3, and 20 minutes from terminal 1 respectively.
Fares cost 750 tzs and can be purchased at the ticket office at the station in cash only (in Tanzanian shillings only). The journey time to the centre is approximately 45 minutes and buses run at irregular intervals of approximately 15 minutes from approximately 6:00am to 7:00pm.
The bus corridor to the airport has been in operation since 2026.
