Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in a nutshell

Chengdu

Tianfu International Airport is the main gateway to the Chinese province of Sichuan and the city of Chengdu, 70 km away.

The airport opened in 2021 to relieve pressure on the airport Shuangliu CTU, which is significantly closer to the city and therefore has limited scope for expansion due to surrounding development.

At present, almost all international flights to Chengdu operate via Tianfu Airport, supplemented by a large number of domestic routes across China. For domestic travel, however, the existing airport remains more popular Shuangliu CTU remains more popular for domestic travel due to its proximity to the city centre.

Sichuan Airlines, Air China, Chengdu Airlines and China Eastern Airlines all have one of their main hubs at Tianfu Airport.

Direct international flights operate from Chengdu to many destinations in South-East Asia, Korea and Japan, whilst direct routes also serve Frankfurt, London, Milan, Moscow, Rome, Addis Ababa, Vienna, Dubai, Doha, Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Vancouver and Los Angeles.
