Transport from Batumi Airport: My Tips
The airport is served by intercity buses and trains from a station 2 km away. Car hire companies also operate here, and local minibuses, known as ‘marshrutkas’, run along the nearby main road.
Car hire
At the airport, you’ll find counters for several car hire companies, including international brands such as Avis, Enterprise and SurPrice.
If you don’t mind the chaotic and hectic traffic on Georgian roads, then travelling by car is by far the most flexible way to get around.
The lowest prices for a week’s hire start at around 250 eur.
Public transport – bus
There is a city bus stop right outside the terminal.
The fare is 1,20 gel.
The airport is served by two bus routes:
- Route 10– runs to the city centre and along the entire coastal promenade to the north of the city, towards the botanical gardens
- Route 16– runs to the city centre (inland, about 300 metres from the sea) and to the harbour
The service is rather irregular. Route 16 runs more frequently (roughly once every 15 minutes), whilst Route 10 runs once or twice an hour.
Buses run from around 7.00 to 20.45.
Taxi / Bolt / Yandex
Taxis are the most common form of transport. At any time of day or night, there will be plenty of taxi drivers outside the terminal trying to get you into their cars.
There are no meters here, so the fare depends entirely on your bargaining skills. The usual fare to the city centre shouldn’t exceed 30 gel.
It will be significantly cheaper to use a taxi via theBolt or Yandex apps, which are popular in Georgia. Depending on the time of day, a Bolt ride to the city centre costs 17 gel to 20 gel.
