The Lounge at Rhodes Airport

Bar

The Lounge is one of the two business lounges at Rhodes RHO Airport. It is located next to another Goldair Handling lounge.

How do I get to the lounge and is it worth paying to enter?

Lounge opening hours and location

The lounge is located on the 2nd floor above the departure gates for flights within the Schengen area.

Non-Schengen passengers can also use the lounge, they just need to allow for a longer walk to the departure gate through passport control.

The walking distances to the different parts of the airport are roughly as follows:

  • Departure gates to the Schengen area approx. 2-5 minutes
  • Departure gates outside the Schengen area approx. 5-15 minutes

Opening hours are daily 5:00-23:00.

Access - who has access to the lounge

The Lounge is a paid lounge accessible to passengers on all flights.

Currently, the lounge is not used by any airlines and cannot be accessed for free with a business class ticket or with Gold or higher frequent flyer status.

  • Paid entry - 40 eur
  • Free entry for holders of the following cards - Priority Pass, Lounge Key, Dragon Pass, Revolut with Ultra plan (get Revolut here)

Lounge access cannot be booked online and can only be paid for on site.

Space and atmosphere - pleasant lighting

At first glance, the lounge looks modern and very pleasant.

The calm blue indirect lighting and the abundance of natural daylight create a soothing atmosphere.

The windows offer a partial view of the tarmac, but this is largely blocked by the roof. However, landing and take-off aircraft can be seen clearly from the lounge.

There is a bar with seating in the centre of the lounge and dining tables by the window.

On the left side of the lounge along the walls you will find comfortable armchairs, while on the other side there are areas ideal for working on a laptop.

In a small separate area, you can relax on a total of 4 comfortable beach-inspired loungers.

Overall, the lounge is small, but since it is not an airport it is primarily intended for holiday and charter passengers who usually have no idea about the existence of lounges, it does not get crowded.

Food and drink offerings

This lounge is below average in terms of the quantity and especially the quality of the food, however, we have to take into account that this is a contract lounge at a relatively small airport primarily for holiday flights.

Thanks to the existence of a bar, there is a very good range of alcoholic drinks, especially liqueurs and spirits, and draught beer is also available.

Non-alcoholic drinks are represented by only one fridge with cans of Coca Cola, Sprite or mineral water.

There is no post-mix or juice menu.

Only very simple cold dishes are served in buffet form, mainly sweet pastries, the traditional delicious Feta cheese pie and mini sandwiches.

Rice pudding and tzatziki were also available.

Hot dishes or salads could only be ordered at the bar from the a la carte menu.

Each lounge guest can only choose one dish for free.

The last part is the Tchibo coffee machine, chips, milk and a bowl of fruit that was practically all rotten.

Lounge equipment

The Lounge has virtually no amenities other than food and a bar.

Showers and toilets

The toilets are outside the lounge, directly opposite the entrance. It goes without saying that if you leave the lounge to visit the restroom, you are free to return to the lounge.

Showers are not available.

Wi-fi

Internet access is available via free wi-fi.

However, the internet speed is quite poor and usually the free airport wi-fi "Fraport" has better quality.

Charging plugs

Plugs for charging electronics are available at most chairs and all work areas.

All plugs are "European" type F only.

Children's corners

There is a very small play area in the lounge for children aged 3-6 years.

Conclusion and my rating

The Rhodes Lounge is a very small contract lounge that is not used by any airlines.

The single entry price of €40 is quite high and in my opinion not very worthwhile considering the very limited food offer.

On the other hand, the terminal tends to be quite congested in the summer season with a shortage of seats, so if you are willing to pay for a significantly quieter seat, this lounge may be an interesting option.

Compared to the adjacent Goldair Handling lounge, the bar is a big advantage with a significantly larger selection of alcoholic beverages.
