Polihale State Park

Polihale Beach

Polihale Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Hawaiian Islands if you're looking for a secluded spot away from civilization with breathtaking views of the mountains of the Na Pali coast, plenty of space, and easy accessibility by car.

Swimming and beach facilities

Polihale State Park contains one almost 4km long flat spacious beach with open sea.

It is located at the foot of the mountains of the Na Pali coast, with fields and plantations on the other side. Polihale beach is ideal for relaxing in the divine nature with a minimum of other visitors.

Swimming in the ocean is not highly recommended here, at most you should wet yourself where the water is knee deep. The waves here tend to be big and, especially in winter, the sea is dangerous due to strong undercurrents.

  • The beach surface - fine white sand
  • Entrance to the water - relatively steep, the sea is already deep a few metres from the shore
  • Length of the beach - 4 km
  • Width of the beach - 50 metres
  • Sunbed rental - no
  • Toilets and showers - no
  • Catering - no, but there are gazebos with benches for picnics
  • Shops - no

How to get there

Polihale Beach is remote but can be accessed by car, albeit only by unpaved road, which some car rental companies may prohibit.

Take the main road, number 50, which runs along the west coast of Kauai to reach the small private airport at Barking Sands, before which you turn right, and after about 300 yards a sign reading "Polihale State Park" directs you left onto a gravel road.

Follow it for about 6 more miles and it will end right at Polihale Beach.
