Anaehoomalu Beach

Anaehoomalu Beach

One of the most popular beaches on Hawai'i Island is the beach at ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay, often referred to as Waikoloa Beach.

Aside from great swimming or sunset watching, the beach is interesting because it separates the ocean from a freshwater lake that stretches between the beach and the mainland for its entire length. The beach can be accessed from the sides where the lake ends or right in the middle via a short pedestrian bridge.

Swimming and beach facilities

ʻAnaehoʻomalu (or Waikoloa) Beach is spread out on fine white sand, with a sparse grove of mature palm trees providing shade along the entire length of the beach.

ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay has very calm waters and access to the ocean is gradual with no rocks. Waikoloa is thus an ideal place for swimming in the sea even for smaller children or not very skilled swimmers.

As one of the few beaches on the Big Island, it also offers a wealth of facilities similar to what you know from European beaches. Here you can rent a sun lounger and umbrella, refresh yourself at the three beach bars or rent a kayak or pedal boat and enjoy some fun in the sea.

Like all other beaches in the Hawaiian Islands, admission is free.
