Where to stay in Durham

Many travellers head to Durham as part of a day trip from Newcastle. For these visitors, we've put together some tips on hotels in Newcastle.
But Durham is a tourist city with all the touristy features and you will find several hotels here as well. If you want to enjoy a night out, stay here ideally for 1 night.
Where to stay
The entire city has only 50,000 inhabitants and most hotels are concentrated in the central area between the train station and the historic centre.
This is the area we would recommend staying in.
Any guesthouses on the outskirts of the city may offer a better price, but you'll need to allow for a roughly 20-25 minute walk to the centre.
- Radisson Blu Durham **** - Best hotel in town overlooking the River Wear about 1km from the cathedral
- Delta Hotels by Marriott **** - a good quality hotel in a more modern part of the centre, but only 5 minutes walk from the historic centre
- Durham Castle, University of Durham - unique hotel right on the grounds of the castle and student halls of residence
