Where to stay in Málaga

Málaga is a fairly large city and, given that the public transport network isn’t particularly well-connected, it’s definitely worth giving some thought to where to stay. 

The best location, with the widest range of options, is undoubtedly the historic centre, from where you can walk to the vast majority of Málaga’s sights and attractions within 15 minutes. Prices in the centre aren’t exorbitant; on the contrary, thanks to the high level of competition in the centre, you can find some really good deals.

If you prefer accommodation by the sea, then the best place is the La Malagueta neighbourhood, home to the famous beach of the same name. However, hotel prices here are the highest in the whole of Málaga.

A cheaper alternative might be the more distant Carretera de Cádiz neighbourhood, which stretches along Misericordia Beach.

Cheapest accommodation

Smaller hotels or private apartments in Málaga offer double rooms during the peak summer seasonfor around 50 eur to 66 eur per night.We’ve selected the best of these, all of which, of course, have an en-suite bathroom and toilet.

The happy medium

Classic, higher-end 3* hotels from both local and international chains start at2, 3 0 eurpernight for a twin room. Take a look at our selection:

• Ibis Malaga Centro Ciudad – a budget classic where you always know what to expect: simple, clean rooms and a good location in the city centre

Luxury hotels

Not one to settle for just anything, or simply want to enjoy comfort without compromise? Málaga has accommodation to suit you too.

The most luxurious hotels in Málaga offer a night in a double room from 289 eur , and among the best known are the 5* Gran Miramar GL by Malagueta Beach or 5* Soho Boutique Castillo de Santa Catalina on the hill near Gibralfaro Castle, with stunning views of the city and the sea.

However, for roughly half the price, you can stay in excellent 4* hotels, such as Soho Boutique Equitativa in the city centre.

Hotel prices in Málaga

As mentioned above, smaller hotels in Málaga can be found from around 50 eur per night for two people, whilst private apartments can sometimes even be found for less than 41 eur . Standard 3* hotels offer a night’s stay from around 103 eur .

Significant price differences can be observed depending on the season. Whilst prices rise by around 15% during the summer holidays, in winter, on the other hand, you’ll have no trouble finding even a higher-quality hotel for around 70 eur .

Expect the highest prices during the third week of August, when the Málaga Feria takes place and crowds of tourists from all over Andalusia flock to the city.
