Where to stay in Paris

Paris

Find out where the best places to stay in Paris are and tips on specific budget or quality hotels.

Where to stay in Paris

Paris is a large conurbation, however most accommodation is concentrated in the centre or very close to the official city boundary, i.e. usually within 30 minutes by metro of the centre.

Compared to London, for example, Paris is much more concentrated and sits in a smaller area, so you don't have to worry so much about booking cheaper hotels outside the centre.

We recommend avoiding cheap hotels with poor ratings or far from a metro station. Commuting by bus can often stretch to over an hour.

Top 10 hotels in Paris

The outskirts of the city (the so-called "Portes") - the cheapest

Generally the cheapest accommodation in many of the large multinational chain hotels can be found on the administrative borders of Paris. Good prices in these locations can be considered to be around 100 eur per night.

Hotels tend to be concentrated near metro or train stations in areas that bear historical names such as "The Gates". In the past, this is where the built-up area ended and it was all countryside from here on.

All of these "Portes" are located within zone 3 of the transport company, so you don't need any extended public transport tickets.

What specific hotels would we recommend and what specific locations are best accessible from the centre? You'll usually find the lowest prices in the eastern and southern parts of Paris.

Porte de Vincennes

A lively and pretty location in the east of Paris with great accessibility thanks to metro line 1, which goes to the most touristy attractions of all the metro routes.

Porte d'Italie

The area is easily accessible from, for example, Orly Airport, on the southern outskirts of Paris and is connected to metro lines 7 and 14.

Place d'Italie

Very popular location in the south-east of the centre, closer than Porte d'Italie and with better hotels. Due to the high competition of hotels, there are quite good prices around 120 eur.

Boulogne-Billancourt

This pleasant suburb in south-west Paris has lively streets with lots of cafes and shops as well as cheap hotels. Most hotels are near the metro stations of line 9 Billancourt or Marcel Sembat.

All the hotels listed below are within a 3-minute walk of the metro.

Montmartre

One of the most popular areas for accommodation where you can experience the true atmosphere and life of the city without paying the highest sums is the Montmartre district and its surroundings.

You'll find mainly smaller hotels and apartments here, which is why the prices are higher than the quality of the accommodation would suggest. The usual prices here are around 200 eur
per night.

If you want to stay right in the heart of Montmartre near the Sacré-Coeur Basilica, we would recommend the Odalys City Paris Montmartre ****.

Downtown Paris

In the very centre of the city, around the Louvre and along the Champs-Élysées, you'll find almost no budget accommodation, but rather luxury hotels and expensive apartments. The same goes for the area around the Eiffel Tower, especially if you want a view of it from your room.

Normal hotel prices in central Paris are between 180 eur and 300 eur.

What hotels with the best value for money, location and quality would we choose right in the centre?

  • Hôtel Volney Opéra *** - A smaller local hotel in the heart of Paris, right next to the Opera House, where the metro lines 3, 7, 8 and the RER A train cross
  • Timhotel Opera Madeleine *** - a hotel right in front of Saint-Lazare station, where trains to Versailles, for example, cross metro lines 3, 12, 13, 14
  • Elysées Union *** - a small hotel in a great location in a beautiful yet quite quiet neighbourhood between the Arc de Triomphe and the Trocadéro

Latin Quarter

Full of cafés, restaurants and unusually narrow streets for Paris, the district is a student, artistic and tourist area at the same time.

The Latin Quarter is mostly local, smaller hotels with prices between 200 eur and 250 eur per night.

It's a good idea to take into account that especially on Fridays and Saturdays the Latin Quarter is alive late into the night, so the main streets are not a very quiet place.

  • Select Hotel **** - A great-rated hotel in our beloved Place de la Sorbonne, one of the quieter squares right in the heart of the Latin Quarter
  • Hôtel Eugénie *** - a nice little hotel near the Seine River

Luxury hotels

Every major world metropolis boasts famous luxury hotels where living is more a matter of social status than real need. What kind of hotels can you find in Paris?

  • Park Hyatt Paris Vendome With its imperial suite priced at around 12827 eur per night. But you'll also find regular double rooms from 586 eur...
  • Hotel Ritz is a worldwide concept. With a location close to the Louvre, it will satisfy all travellers who are willing to pay between 1283 eur and 5497 eur for a room per night.
  • Four Seasons Hotel George V In addition to the "regular rooms" with a price tag from 1283 eur, it will also offer its iconic Royal Suites, where you can pay 23089 eur for one night.
  • Other hotels that rank among the most expensive in the world include Le Bristol, Hotel de Crillon and Plaza Athénée

Hotels with a view of the Eiffel Tower

Looking for specific hotels with a view of Paris' iconic Eiffel Tower? Then there are several hotels to choose from, but always expect to pay extra for the view. You can either head to the hotels right next to the Eiffel Tower, in which case stay here:

  • Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel - 4* hotel right under the foot of the tower, prices in a 2-bed room from 176 eur per night
  • Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel - a 4* hotel with the best location and right next to the tower offering impressive views, room rates towards the Eiffel Tower start from 293 eur per night

Or choose one of the more distant hotels for a panoramic view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower. Of the hotels that offer rooms with a view of the tower directly on their website, we'd pick these:

  • Hôtel Le Relais Saint Charles - 3* hotel with prices from 128 eur offers rooms with a view of the top of the Eiffel Tower, which is about 400 metres away.
  • Hotel La Comtesse - a beautiful 4* hotel with prices from 183 eur is located by the Invalides and offers beautiful views of the tower from its balconies
  • Résidence Charles Floquet - If you prefer smaller, more private but luxurious apartments, head here. The prices are high (from 257 eur) but if you don't mind paying extra for quality, this is one of the best places in Paris

Hotels overlooking the Seine

The rivers running through the city centre are always among the most beautiful places, and Paris, with its famous Seine, is no exception. If you're looking for a hotel right on the waterfront, here are some tips:

  • Hotel OFF Paris Seine - A modern hotel with a restaurant on a pontoon is located right next to Austerlitz station with an average price from 136 eur
  • Hotel Le Notre Dame Saint Michel - is on the banks of the Seine in the Latin Quarter and offers views of Notre-Dame Cathedral, prices from 165 eur

Hotel prices in Paris

Count on accommodation prices in Paris being up to 30% higher during weekends, holidays and vacations than during the working week. The best time is spring or autumn, when the tourist season is not so high, but it is not quite winter yet.

The cheapest hostels are exceptionally well under 1,000 CZK per night for 2 people and overall you won't find many in Paris.

Much more common are the apartments, most of which are located just around Montmartre, where the cheapest ones are priced like hostels, but there are also more expensive ones. Most, however, range in price from 2,500 CZK and up.

You can usehotels in Paris really a lot and most you will find three-star ones. Mostly they are located in the tourist spots and in the centre, but you will find the cheaper ones rather further away from the centre. The cheapest hotels, which are of a normal standard, are around 150 eur per night in locations further away from the centre.

Hotels in the centre usually have prices around 200 eur per night.
