Vietnam now visa-free for 45 days

Vietnam

The Vietnamese government has issued a resolution to abolish the visa requirement for tourist trips of up to 45 days. It will apply to citizens of 12 European countries to start with.

The official website, where e-visas are now being purchased, does not yet have this information, but you can find it on the government website xaydungchinhsach.chinhphu.vn.

We will gradually update with more clear official links if any appear.

Who can enter Vietnam without a visa?

Visa-free entry to Vietnam applies to travel for tourism purposes only.

Citizens of the following countries will not need a visa:

  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Hungary
  • Luxembourg
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Switzerland

You can stay in Vietnam without a visa for a maximum of 45 days after entering the country.

If you wish to travel to Vietnam for more than 45 days (and for a maximum of 90 days), you will still need to apply for an electronic visa.

Since when does the visa waiver apply?

You can travel visa-free from 15 August 2025.

For now, this policy is part of the Tourism Development Programme and is limited until 14 August 2028.

Current practice

Compared to the current situation, you will save the fee 25 usd for e-visa issuance as well as the time required to fill out the visa form, which includes uploading a photo or a copy of your passport, for example.

Until now, only travellers heading to Phu Quoc Island were exempted from the visa.

Without the hassle of dealing with visas, you can finally discover the mainland beauty of Vietnam such as the village of Sa Pa, the lantern city of Hoi An or the resort of Da Nang.
