Book accommodation in Zanzibar
On-arrival visas
In the arrival halls of both terminals, you will find counters where you can buy your Tanzanian visa on arrival.
The price is 50 usd, you can also pay in Euros (the amount is the same, i.e. 50 eur) or in Tanzanian shillings (approx. 125 000 tzs).
You can also pay by card, but if the payment terminal happens not to work, there is no possibility to withdraw cash (ATMs are only in the public area).
We therefore recommend carrying cash, at least in the amount of 50 usd.
Internet and wi-fi
There is a free wi-fi network at the airport, which works well in both Terminal 2 and 3.
Don't delay buying a physical sim card on arrival. Get a Tanzanian data e-sim quickly and easily at airalo.com.
Shops and supermarket
Shopping options at Zanzibar Airport are very limited and you will find shops virtually only in the transit area of International Terminal 3.
There are only small souvenir shops and one duty free shop.
There is a small shop with a local sim card in the arrivals hall of the international terminal.
Dining options
In the international terminal you will find a restaurant, a bar and a small bistro after security check. Prices here are several times higher than anywhere else in Zanzibar.
There is a small, very expensive, bistro in the public area of Terminal 3.
The small Terminal 2 has significantly more local bistros outside the check-in halls. Prices here are also higher than elsewhere in Zanzibar, but lower than in Terminal 3.
There are two small, expensive bistros after security in Terminal 2A.
The last and cheapest option is the "Airport Café" located in a separate building between terminals 2 and 3.
Baggage storage
Neither the domestic nor the international terminal offers luggage storage or automatic luggage lockers.
ATMs and currency exchange facilities
Currency exchange offices can be found outside the arrival halls of Terminals 2 and 3.
There are also ATMs at all currency exchange offices for regular Tanzanian banks, which also operate international cards including Revolut cards (get Revolut here).
The ATM withdrawal fee is around 15 000 tzs.
Luggage wrapping
There are several kiosks in the departure lounges of both terminals where you can have your luggage wrapped in protective film for a fee 10 usd.
Payment can only be made in cash in US dollars or Tanzanian shillings.
