Vienna Airport is connected to the railway network, which provides the main link to the city and the rest of Austria.

Train to Vienna Central Station (Wien-Hbf)

You can reach Vienna Central Station – which also houses the main coach station (some Flixbus services stop at Erdberg station in another part of the city) – via direct trains from the underground station in the airport terminal. These are always long-distance services that continue on to Linz, Munich and other destinations.

Alternative connections are available via the S-Bahn and REX regional trains, with a change at Wien Rennweg.

• Fare – 4,50 eur , group fare for two at 6,80 eur
• Journey time – 15 minutes direct, or approx. 30 minutes with a change
• Frequency – every 30 minutes

You can buy a ticket from a ticket machine at the station or online at oebb.at. If you’re travelling as a couple and have plenty of time, a group ticket for two will cost you just 6,80 eur– valid only on the S-Bahn and regional trains (REX) with a change at Wien Rennweg.

• First train from Wien-Hbf – 5:42 (direct service) or 4:30 (with a change)
• Last train from the airport – 0:02 (direct service) or 0:19 (with a change)

Alternatively, you can use earlier or later services with a change at Wien Rennweg via the VAL – Vienna Airport Lines night buses; details below.

Train and S-Bahn to Vienna city centre

The best option is the S-Bahn line S7, which takes you directly to the heart of Vienna via Rennweg, Wien-Mitte or Praterstern stations. In addition to line S7, you can also use other ÖBB trains with the same tickets.

• Journey time to Wien-Mitte – 23 minutes
• Frequency – 15–20 minutes

You can buy a ticket from a ticket machine at the station, online at oebb.at, or via the WienMobil mobile app (available on Google Play / App Store).

A €4.50 ticket can be used to travel to any stop in Vienna; it is also valid on trams, buses and the underground (U-Bahn). You can change services as often as you like within the 120-minute period during which the ticket is valid.

Don’t forget to validate your ticket – if travelling on the S-Bahn, trains or the underground, you must do so whilst still on the platform! The group ticket for €6.80 can only be used on the S-Bahn or ÖBB regional trains.

• First train from Wien-Mitte – 4.19
• Last train from the airport – 1:19

If you have purchased a day ticket for public transport, you must buy an additional ticket for the zone outside Vienna for 2,10 eur when travelling to the airport! The day ticket is not valid for the journey to the airport! 

The CAT train to the city centre

Avoid the overpriced “CAT – City Airport Train”, which is advertised everywhere at the airport and around the city. The journey time to Wien-Mitte station is only 7 minutes shorter than on the S7 S-Bahn.

Yet the ticket is almost three times as expensive (a single costs 14,90 eur/ a return 24,90 eur).

Bus to Bratislava

Direct Slovak Lines buses, in cooperation with Terravision, run from the Vienna Airport terminal to Bratislava’s main bus station, Nivy.

The buses also stop at the bridge SNP.

Timetables and ticket bookings can be found on theslovaklines.sk website. However, you can currently buy cheaper tickets for these services 7,90 eur via the Terravision website, which sells tickets for Slovak Lines services.

• Journey time – 60 minutes
• Frequency– every 45 to 60 minutes
• Last bus from the airport – 23:59
• First bus from Bratislava (Nivy) – 3:00

To Erdberg bus station (Flixbus)

The operator’s main bus station Flixbus is called Erdberg. There is currently no direct connection between the airport and Erdberg station.

From Erdberg, first take the U3 underground line to ‘Landstrasse/Wien-Mitte’ station, where you’ll change to the direct S7 train to the airport. The journey takes about 35 minutes in total and a ticket costs 4,50 eur (group ticket for two 6,80 eur).

Alternatively, you can get off at St. Marx station and walk to Erdberg station (approx. 2,100 metres).

However, many Flixbus long-distance services stop directly at the airport, so always check on flixbus.com whether you need to travel from the airport to Erdberg station.

Night transport

All-night transport is provided by Vienna Airport Lines buses with a flat-rate fare of 9,50 eur (tickets can be purchased online or from the driver).

Night and early morning services from Vienna to the airport, when trains are not running, operate on two routes:

VAL Line 1: Hauptbahnhof and Westbahnhof

• Departures from Westbahnhof to the airport – 1.30, 2.30, 3.00, 3.30, 4.00, 4.30
• Departures from Hauptbahnhof to the airport – 1.45, 2.45, 3.15, 3.45, 4.15, 4.45
• Departures from the airport to the railway station – 0:00, 0:30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30

Line VAL2: Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz (city centre)

• Departures from Morzinplatz to the airport – 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, 3:00, 3:30, 4:00, 4:30
• Departures from the airport towards the city centre – 0:15, 0:45, 1:15, 1:45, 2:15, 2:45, 3:15, 3:45
