The airport is located west of the city just off the A2 motorway and is accessible by car or bus to the centre of Varna and the resorts.
Bus Varna and Golden Sands
There is a direct bus line 409 to the centre of Varna (bus station, cathedral) and to the resorts of Golden Sands, St. Constantine or Helena. The interval is 15-30 minutes.
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket machine or from the conductor inside the bus, where you can officially pay by card, but this option usually does not work, so we recommend to always carry cash with you. The bus stop at the airport is located approximately 50 metres to the right of the arrivals hall.
Ticket prices are as follows:
- 2 BGN / 1 BGN via the mobile app - transfer for 60 minutes
- 2,50 BGN / 1,50 BGN via the mobile app - 90 minute change
- 4 BGN - all-day
The first bus from the centre (from the Cathedral) doesn't leave until 6:51 with arrival at the airport at 7:07.
The last service from the airport leaves at 23:11.
If you would like to organize a road-trip along the Bulgarian coast or inland with stops at several different places, renting a car is the best option. If you're heading here in high season, it's worth booking a car for the lowest price about 2-3 months before your trip.
Typical prices in high season range from 35 EUR per day for a week's rental, a 4-day rental will work out from about 40 EUR per day. There are several car rental companies, including most multinationals, located right in the arrivals hall.
The best deals can be compared, for example, on the website rentalcars.comwhere you can book a car directly.
Official taxis are available outside the airport building at all hours of the day and night. The fare is paid at the stand before getting into the taxi, if there is no attendant, then only to the driver. Payment can only be made in cash and the fare to the city centre is 15 BGN.
