Transfers and Terminal Layout at Sofie Airport
Although the airport is one of the smaller ones, there are two terminals about 2 km apart. Terminal 1 is outdated, while Terminal 2 is much newer and dates back to 2005.

The terminals are divided according to the airlines that serve them:
- Terminal 1 - AirBaltic, Arkia, Azerbaijan Airlines, BH Air, easyJet, Norwegian, Pegasus Airlines, Sky Express, Tailwind Airlines, Wizz Air
- Terminal 2 - Aegean Airlines, Air Serbia, Austrian, British Airways, Bulgaria Air, Corendon Airlines, European Air Charter, Lufthansa, El Al, Flydubai, Gullivair, ITA Airways, LOT, Qatar Airways, Ryanair, Swiss, Sun Express, Tarom, Turkish Airlines
The current breakdown of airlines by terminal can be found on the airport website: sofia-airport.eu/airlines.
Transfer between flights
If you have a transfer at Sofia Airport within one booking (guaranteed by the airline), it will always take place within Terminal 2 only.
The transfer is very well signposted and you don't have to worry about long queues due to the small terminal and not very busy flights. The transfer can be made in less than 20 minutes.
There is no security check during the transfer from a Schengen area flight. If you arrive from a non-Schengen country, you will go through security.
Moving between terminals
You can use the airport bus between terminals, especially if you arrive at the airport by metro. There is only a metro station at Terminal 2.
The Shuttle Bus only operates within the "landside", i.e. the public section, and stops are always directly in front of the terminal.
The buses operate 24/7. Once every 20 minutes during the day and once every 40 minutes at night.
You can also move between the terminals on a marked walkway. The walking distance is 2 km.

There are also self-checkout kiosks in T2.
Hello, I am thinking of buying tickets from Vienna to Malta with a connection in Sofia, it is two separate tickets, I will have checked baggage. There is a 2,5 hour layover time. Is it enough time to change planes? Thank you
Hello, if you believe that Wizz Air will not change the flight times and if the first flight is on time, then 2.5 hours is definitely enough.
Terminal 1 is small and the distances are critical.
But remember that Wizz Air moves flight times quite often, so if you have a flight bought well in advance, it is quite possible that the connection time may change.
Well, it's small, but it will have to wait for checked baggage and go through security again. Last week there was a single x-ray and the line was a good 20 minutes long...
Yeah, but still, 2.5 hours is plenty of time. If everything goes as planned and on schedule.
Which is the biggest risk.
This is Ryanair, departure in 2,5 months, so hopefully there will be no changes. Thank you
