Transport from Skyros Airport: My Tips
The airport is situated on the northern side of the island, approximately 13 km from the village of Skyros and 23 km from the port of Linaria.

Taxis
Taxis are the main form of public transport to the airport.
After the arrival of each scheduled flight, there are always plenty of taxis waiting directly outside the arrivals hall. Some cars are waiting for pre-booked passengers, mainly local residents, whilst others are waiting for walk-in passengers.
If you miss all the taxis waiting for walk-in passengers, the remaining taxi drivers will be happy to call their colleagues, and a taxi will arrive for you within 20 minutes.
Standard fares from the airport are as follows:
- Skyros Town – 20 eur
- Linaria (harbour) – 30 eur
Payment is by cash only.
Car hire
Both local and international car hire companies operate at the airport, the largest of which is Auto Union. If you’re staying on the island for a longer period, a car is definitely the most convenient option for getting around.
Prices for a week’s hire during the summer season start at 335 eur.
Public transport
The local KTEL Skyros bus runs to the airport once a day.
The buses only connect with Aegean Airlines flights to and from Athens and run to Chora, the island’s largest town.
A ticket costs 2 eur and is paid for in cash to the driver.

Hi Kryštof, could you please explain how I should go about booking flights to Skyros? I’d like a step-by-step guide for a female traveller. I’m a complete beginner when it comes to travelling on my own. I’ve looked up connections from Athens and Thessaloniki, but I’m not sure how to book them online. As a recent retiree, I want to set off to see the world, but during my busy working life I didn’t have time for this sort of thing. And I don’t want to go to tourist resorts that are overrun with visitors either.

There is currently a bus service running from the town of Skyros (Chora) to the airport, but it only connects with the regular service to Athens.
