Transfer at Shannon Airport

Shannon

Ireland's Shannon Airport uses only one medium-sized terminal common to all flights.

Part of the terminal, after security checks, is allocated to US departures. You will already go through US immigration control at the local airport and will not go through any passport control once you arrive in the US.

If you are flying to the USA, you should ideally arrive at the airport 2.5 to 3 hours before your flight. If you are flying from Shannon to Europe only, you only need to arrive 1.5 to 2 hours before departure.

Transfer between flights

Although Shannon is a small airport, it can also serve as a very nice transfer point thanks to its flights to the USA.

The airport has a special corridor for transiting passengers and if you have a boarding pass for a connecting flight, you don't have to leave the transit area.

Once off the plane, follow the signs Flight Connections, which will take you through a quick security check straight to the departure gates.

Realistic transfer time between planes is approximately 15 minutes.

If you are travelling with checked baggage and have arranged your transfer at Shannon on your own, you must collect your baggage, exit the transit area and check in again. If you are connecting on one ticket, you do not need to worry about your baggage.
