Transportation from Milan Bergamo Airport

David Eiselt updated 23. 10. 2023

Transport to Bergamo Airport is only served by bus services, with large buses to Milan and one city bus to Bergamo. There is no train service to the airport.

Bus to Milan city centre

Direct buses depart from the airport to Milano Centrale train station at least once every half hour to serve all passengers upon arrival. There are several carriers to choose from, the largest of which is Terravision.

Ticket prices are the same for all carriers and the cheapest when bought online: 10 eur to go one way, 18 eur to buy a return ticket.

  • Travel time to Milano Centrale: 60 minutes
  • Frequency: 5-15 minutes
  • Fares: 10 eur one way / 18 eur return

Buy a ticket - Terravision.com

If you don't buy your tickets online, purchase them from the driver before boarding. Avoid buying at the kiosk in the arrivals hall, you will be tied to one particular company and miss out on a possible faster journey on an earlier bus from another company. Tickets are the same price for all three companies. On the way to the airport, tickets can then be bought from a vendor directly at the bus stops near the main station (Piazza Luigi di Savoia).

Other bus companies are Flixbus or Autostradale.

Bus to Bergamo

Bus line 1 takes you every 20 minutes to the centre of Bergamo, the train station or the historic centre of Città Alta. You can find the timetable on the website: atb.bergamo.it.

Tickets can be bought directly at the bus stop or from the machines inside the bus. Tickets can also be purchased via the ATB Mobile app. The fare is as follows, it is necessary to buy a ticket for 3 zones:

  • 90 minutes for 3 eur,
  • 24 hours for 8,50 eur,
  • 72 hours for 14,50 eur.

Mark the ticket after boarding only on the first ride, after that they are not marked anymore and are also valid for cable cars.

Bus line 1 departs from stop number 1 directly in front of the arrival hall. All services from the airport go to the station and to the centre of Città Alta.

However, when travelling to the airport, please check the bus signs carefully. Only Line 1 services arrive at the airport, not 1A, 1B or 1C. In the timetable, all services to the airport are marked with a little plane pictogram.

Bus to Lake Garda

The fastest and cheapest connection to Lake Garda, specifically to the town of Peschiera del Garda, is provided by Flixbus buses. A one-way ticket costs from 13 eur, the journey takes 65 minutes, but so far the buses only run 3 times a day.

More frequent connections will be offered by Trenitalia trains, which leave from the centre of Bergamo every hour. Change once on the way to Lake Garda and the journey will take an hour and a half, after adding the bus ride from the airport to the station, count on about 2 and a quarter hours of driving. The cheapest return tickets from Bergamo cost 18,40 eur.

To Malpensa Airport

The transfer from Bergamo Airport to Malpensa Airport (both Terminal 1 and 2) can be done in under 2 hours. In fact, there is a direct Flixbus bus service between the airports for 20 eur in one direction. However, it only departs 6-8 times a day from platform 3.

A more frequent connection runs through the centre of Milan, taking the bus to the central train station and changing to the Malpensa Express, which runs every half hour. You pay 8 eur for the bus from Bergamo to Milan city centre and 13 eur for the train from Milan to Malpensa. Total journey time is approximately 150 minutes. At the station you can also change to cheaper very busy buses (10 eur), but these run slower and so the total journey time will be about 3 hours.
