Internet and Wi-Fi

Unlimited free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport. Connect to the “Airport FreeWifi Aena” network.

If you are using an EU SIM card, you can make calls and use data in Spain at the same rates as in your home country.

Shops and supermarkets

You won’t find a traditional supermarket at the airport just yet, so you’ll have to wait until you’re in town to buy groceries.

You can buy quick snacks such as pre-packed sandwiches, baguettes or sweets at theWHSmithmini-market in the transit area (3.00–0.00), for example.

In the public area on the arrivals level, there is a handy 1-minute mini-market where you can buy sandwiches, salads, drinks and other packaged food to take away.

Duty-free shops and more upmarket fashion boutiques are available on a much larger scale beyond the security checkpoint.

In the public area on the first floor (departures), you’ll also find a chemist’s (7.00 am–9.00 pm).

Restaurants and cafés

You’ll find a much wider selection of restaurants once you’ve passed through security. In the public area, there are only three small cafés and a Starbucks near the departure counters (open 24 hours a day). Once through security, you can visit restaurants such as:

• Burger King (5:00–23:00)
• Giraffe Stop (6.00–23.00)
• a large food court with several smaller restaurants (La Boutique is open 24/7)
• Starbucks (5.00–22.00)
• Soho Coffee (5:00–22:00)
• and more

Luggage storage

The luggage storage facility is operated by LockMate and is located on the ground floor of the public area of the terminal.

It is open from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, and the price for 24 hours is set at 12 eur. You can also leave your luggage at the storage facility for longer than 14 days at discounted rates.

ATMs and currency exchange

The only ATMs at the airport are operated by Euronet, which charges a fee of approximately 5 eur for withdrawals.

The currency exchange is run by Global Exchange, which offers very unfavourable exchange rates.

I paid for everything at the airport (including transport) by card and only withdrew cash once I was in the city.

However, during my stay in Spain, I didn’t actually need cash even once.

Drinking water

In the transit area beyond the security checkpoint, there are drinking fountains where you can fill your own bottle with water free of charge.

Baggage wrapping

Kiosks offering luggage wrapping in protective film are located at several points in the departures hall.

The charge is 12 eur per piece of luggage, and card payments are accepted.

Vending machines

For a quick bite to eat, the easiest option is to use the vending machines offering drinks, baguettes, sandwiches and sweets, which are located in large numbers throughout the airport.

The vending machines accept both cash and payment cards.
