Transfer at Kona Airport

The terminal is divided into three sections by airline, but it is not large and orientation is very easy.
The entire area is built in the style of open-air gazebos without perimeter walls, so you'll enjoy the relaxed Hawaiian atmosphere and local climate until the last minute before departure.
The airport is divided into the main terminal and the Commuter Terminal, which is only served by Mokulele Airlines. The latter can be found about 150 metres to the left when facing the main terminal.
The airport is small, clear and you only need to arrive 2 hours before your flight.
Transfer between flights
If you'll be connecting from an international flight to a domestic flight at Kona Airport, you'll need to go through immigration (lines are usually 30-60 minutes), collect your luggage, and check in and go through security again.
For domestic transfers, there is a separate corridor leading directly to the baggage claim area and then out to the public area, so again you must check in and go through security again.
Sleeping at the airport - opening hours
The airport is open from 04:00 until the last arrival (usually around 0:00).
Sleeping inside the terminal is therefore not possible and security will send all passengers to the small area on the uncomfortable wooden benches outside the car rental centre.
Hotels near the airport
There is no hotel or other type of accommodation directly outside the Kona Airport terminal.
The nearest hotels are in Kona, about 20 minutes away by car.
