Getting from Kerry Airport
Public transport around the Irish countryside is both infrequent and relatively expensive. On the other hand, car hire in Ireland is among the cheapest in Europe, especially in low season or when booked well in advance.
Car rental
We definitely recommend renting a car directly at the airport. There are several rental companies operating here, with prices starting at around 15 eur for 1 day.
If you want to travel around Ireland, we recommend that you consider returning the car at another airport - for example, Cork or Shannon. While you can't avoid the extra charges for returning it elsewhere, Irish rental companies don't charge that much (they're around 100 eur per booking, which is what you'd normally spend on an intercity bus ticket with 3 people, for example).
You'll find the car rental counters to the right of the arrivals hall by the car park, about 150 metres away.
The walking route is clearly marked.
Public transport - buses
There is a bus stop directly in front of the terminal where several bus lines stop.
However, the bus timetable is not adapted to the flight schedule and you will not usually be able to catch a bus to the morning departures.
You can find connections on transportforireland.ie.
Fares can always be paid by cash or card to the driver. You can also use a Leap Card to pay, but you cannot buy one at Kerry Airport.
However, if you are flying in from Dublin or arriving from another Irish city, you can use a Leap Card purchased anywhere else in Ireland.
