Getting from Hilo Airport

There is a local Hele-on bus stop right outside the terminal, however, the vast majority of passengers use car rental companies to get around the Big Island.
Car rental
If you want to see more than just Hilo from the Big Island, renting a car will be a must. Just off the exit of the terminal, you'll find a small building with counters for all the rental car companies.
Hilo Airport car rental prices normally range between 130 usd and 300 usd per week, depending on the type of car.

The car rental counters are directly opposite the terminal.
From the airport, you can easily reach the centre of Hilo in 10 minutes, which is 2.5 km away and where you'll find the most accommodation offers, see our mini-guide for specific tips.
Public Transportation - Bus
From the airport, the 101 bus line only runs to the nearby town of Hilo.
The service operates from approximately 6:30am to 5:30pm every hour.
Fares on all lines on Hawai'i Island are free, but connections outside of the cities are very infrequent or non-existent.
Taxi / Uber / Lyft
Taxis are the fastest and most convenient mode of transportation to downtown Hilo.
Outside the terminal, you can use traditional metered taxis as well as apps like Uber or Lyft, which can offer a lower fare.
We provide indicative prices for rides from the airport:
