Getting from George Airport

Wilderness

The airport George is not served by any public transport. The vast majority of tourists rent a car directly from the terminal or use taxis.

Car rental

If George is your starting point for the Garden Route, rent a car directly at the terminal.

Many multinational and local rental companies have a branch here, and weekly rental rates start at around 110 usd.

One-way rental rates are also good (return the car at another airport - Port Elizabeth or Cape Town, for example). For a weekly rental, pay from 150 usd.

The car rental counters are located in the building to the left of the terminal. The pedestrian walkway is clearly signposted and is approximately 100 metres long.

Taxi or Uber

If you don't want to rent on the day of arrival, you can use taxis or the well-functioning mobile app Uber to get to nearby towns.

Taxis here aren't officially marked, but there are always taxi drivers with circular "Taxi" signs in the arrivals hall, and you don't have to worry about rogue unofficial drivers.

However, prices with regular taxi drivers are subject to agreement, so it can be much more secure and convenient to use Uber, where you always know the price up front.

Average Uber prices are as follows:

  • City George (16 km) - approx. 165 zar
  • Mossel Bay (41 km) - approx. 410 zar
