You can reach the airport easily by bus from Chania, and there are also plenty of car hire companies to choose from.

If you’re arriving in Chania as part of an organised tour with a travel agency, you won’t need to worry about transport to and from the airport. You’ll be taken by the travel agency’s coach directly to your hotel.

Car hire

The best way to explore Crete at your own pace is with a hire car, which will take you to all the natural attractions and beaches. There are many local and international car hire companies based at Chania Airport.

Prices during the peak season range from around 50 eur to 80 eur per day for a one-week hire.

Bus to Chania

The unnumbered bus operated by KTEL Chania-Rethymno runs to Chania’s central bus station (location at google.com/maps) roughly every 30 to 60 minutes from 5.00 am to 11.45 pm. Departure times vary depending on the day and are based on the flight schedule.

The first buses from Chania city centre to the airport leave at 5.00 am, and the last bus from the airport to the city leaves at exactly midnight.

A ticket costs 2,70 eur and can be purchased at a small kiosk in front of the bus stop to the right of the terminal. The kiosk is clearly marked with the sign ‘BUS STOP’. When travelling from the city centre, you can buy a ticket at the ticket office at the main bus station. The driver does not sell tickets.

The journey from the airport to Chania takes approximately 25–30 minutes.

From the bus station in Chania, you can travel throughout western Crete and on to Heraklion. All services are operated by the same company as the airport route, and you can find the timetables on the website e-ktel.com.

Bus to Rethymno

There are four direct services a day from the airport to the town of Rethymno, stopping at the harbour in Souda. The journey takes around 70 minutes and costs 7,30 eur.

You can buy tickets from the same kiosk at the airport, or at the ticket office at the bus station in Rethymno.

Taxis

There are plenty of taxis waiting at the airport for all flights, right up until late at night. Taximeters are not used, as the fare to the centre of Chania is fixed at 23 eur. Payment is by cash only.
