South African Airways allows the carriage of checked baggage on all fares.

You can always take 2 carry-on bags on board: one standard cabin bag and 1 personal item.

Carry-on baggage

Passengers in economy class have a free cabin bag of 56 x 36 x 23 cm up to 8 kg.

You can also take 1 small personal item of 40 x 30 x 10 cm in addition to this baggage at no extra charge.

The dimensions of the personal item are not specified, but it must fit under the seat in front of you and weigh up to 5 kg (excluding a pushchair, wheelchair or crutches).

Business class passengers get 2 free hand luggage items, each measuring 56 x 36 x 23 cm and each up to 8 kg. In addition, they can also carry one personal item.

Checked baggage

All economy class passengers can take 1 piece of checked baggage up to 23kg.

Business class passengers have 2 pieces of checked baggage of 32 kg each free of charge.

The sum of all checked baggage dimensions should not exceed 158 cm.

Baggage for children

Infants up to 2 years of age can carry strollers and 1 small personal item with necessities for the duration of the flight free of charge.
