Hand luggage

Economy Class passengers are entitled to one piece of cabin baggage measuring 55 x 40 x 23 cmand weighing up to 7 kg free of charge.

In addition to this bag, you may also take one of the following personal items free of charge:

• Laptop bag
• Ladies’ handbag
• Coat, blanket
• Camera
• Shopping bag duty free
• Bag with food and drink for the child during the flight
• Folding pushchair
• Folding wheelchair
• Crutches

The dimensions of personal items are not specified, but they must fit under the seat in front of you and weigh no more than 5 kg (with the exception of pushchairs, wheelchairs or crutches).

Passengers travelling in ‘Cloud 9’ Business Class are entitled to two pieces of hand luggage free of charge, each measuring 55 x 40 x 23 cm and weighing up to 7 kg. In addition, they may also carry one of the personal items listed above.

Checked-in luggage

All passengers, even those travelling on the cheapest ‘Economy Promo’ fare, are entitled to free checked-in luggage, normally two pieces weighing up to 23 kg each.

The sum of all dimensions of checked-in luggage should not exceed 158 cm.

However, on some routes, this limit is higher.

Excess baggage charges

If you arrive at the airport with luggage that exceeds the specified limits, you will always be charged an excess baggage fee.

The amounts listed below apply to journeys between Africa and the destinations specified. If you are travelling between the destinations listed below (for example, Europe <-> nd the Middle East), you will always be charged the higher amount.

• 1 additional piece of luggage up to 23 kg
  • from 175 usd to 300 usd
• Excess weight from 23 kg to 32 kg (a flat rate applies regardless of whether you exceed the limit by 1 kg or 9 kg)
  • from 50 usd to 126 usd

Baggage for children

Ethiopian Airlines offers generous baggage allowance terms for infants under 2 years of age.

On all routes, they may carry one piece of checked-in luggage weighing up to 23 kg free of charge. In addition, hand luggage may consist only of a small bag containing food and drink for the duration of the flight, a child car seat and a pushchair.
